An Art Therapy Session

During a session you will create artwork, often in combination with discussion with the Art Therapist; Exploring thoughts/ feelings, and sharing your responses to the art materials or the theme. The choice of art activity might be selected by the Art Therapist, or by the client themselves. 

Many Art Therapists incorporate other therapy techniques into their session such as CBT or DBT skills. An Art Therapist will not interpret your art! Their role is to guide you and encourage you to attach meaning to your artwork. 

How Art Therapy can help:

  • Provide distraction from difficult or intrusive thoughts
  • Can be a safe outlet for  expressing thoughts, feelings, or experiences
  • ​Develop and practice coping strategies​
  • Gain insight
